Despite obvious signs of waning popularity, JYPE and YGE today held a press conference announcing that they would be doubling down on their misplaced commitment to the Zepeto platform. Known for it’s creepy 3D animated versions of people who like to share their personal data and likeness with strangers online, Zepeto is an app that was popular for an entire two weeks back in 2018.
Riding off the popularity of audition survivor shows and facing a growing inability to adequately support artists already under its label, YG Entertainment today announced that it would hold the k-pop industry’s first-ever Battle Royale Hunger Games. As the first of its kind, this new audition survivor show will force idols under YG Ent to violently end each others’ careers until only Jennie remains, as part of the struggling label’s effort to become a profitable company once again.
“We thought we could just push a slightly heavier version of the girl crush concept,” said one label executive. “Calling the concept ‘techwear’ gave us an excuse to recycle the outfits they’d just wear on stage anyway.”
