NIGHT CITY—At a recent press briefing, label representatives from RBW, SM Entertainment, Starship Entertainment, and YG Entertainment confessed that they had no understanding of what “techwear” looks like despite pushing their idol concepts as such.
“We thought we could just push a slightly heavier version of the girl crush concept,” said one label executive. “Calling the concept ‘techwear’ gave us an excuse to recycle the outfits they’d just wear on stage anyway.”
“At first we thought we had to add LEDs, ethernet cables and cutting edge tech,” chimed in another executive. “But we quickly realized we could save money by passing bargain bin police surplus gear and lightly-used BDSM clothing as ‘techwear.’ It’s not like k-pop fans will know the difference.”
Netizens praised the edgy fashion choices and “techwear” dance videos which presented their favorite idols in black clothes, fannypacks, combat boots, and buckle straps found from the local thrift shop.
